Dear Babu garu!

Jai Sai Master!

Please forgive my impatience,  but when are we discussing the meditation techniques before we start? I cannot even think of going alone without your help (and ofcourse Baba, Master's, Amma garu's, and Swamy's help)

Jai Sai Master!!

Jai Sai Master!

Dear Ananth, I can understand what you mean. I would say, trust me and play along, for now. The discussion will start very soon.

Today, we all are going to start doing our meditation. Doing meditation with blessings from Sadguru is one of the rarest opportunities one might get; as the saying of Masters goes : It is impossible to get a human birth, quest for truth and liberation and a meeting with a Sadguru. Imagine how fortunate we are.

Its just wonderful blessings of Master that today is the day of a complete lunar eclipse here in India. It is supposed to be one of the best moments for meditation. Master used to make every one do meditation and used to say that it would have a many-fold result.

Before we start our meditation, the first and foremost thing we should do is to feel and express our deepest gratitude for Master for giving us this opportunity, knowledge and possiblity of meditation. So, on this starting day, we would be carefully cleaning our place of meditation, place our Master (In the form of Photos(or photo) that we have chosen, the books) there suitably and request Him to bless us through those so that our meditation is fruitful.

After placing our Master on a higher level than our seating (you can use anything for elevation(no pun intended)), we should put some flowers, light our scent sticks and pour some water in our bottles first in the plate that we have imagining cleaning His feet, putting that water "Teertham" on our heads, pouring some water in the flower pot and asking her respectfully to provide us with an appropriate environment for meditation and then take some water to moisten mouth and throat. Then placing an aasana for ourselves, we should fold our shawl so that it easily accomodates our posture, put on socks (to provide added comfort in seating) and sit on it.

See the Master infront of you, and (either closing your eyes or keeping them open) try to keep that feeling that He is then and there, strongly. Feel it deeply, that He is in that Photograph, the books, and other objects for meditation. After doing this for a few minutes, recall deeply that He is the thing that every thing we see is made of. The walls, curtains or any other decor, the very air that we are breathing.. feel that it is Master. Try to keep this feeling as long as you can.. what ever image your mind conjures (mind is a tricky thing.. it keeps showing images), realize that what ever image its showing us is also Master.. thinking thus, take your mind back on to the Master .. Think of His stature, appearance or leelas deeply. Do this as long as you can. If this takes up your 15 minutes and you have to stop due to time constraints, you can again thankfully bow to Master who is in the form of every thing around you with reverence.. offer Him some water, wash His feet(by imagining it and by pouring water into the plate) and put it on your head. Then pouring some into the flower pot and taking the rest as Teertham.

Get up slowly. Dont rush into other works.. let the impact of meditation slowly merge into your every day deeds. Every now and then, until tomorrow's meditation, keep reminding yourself of your feelings during meditation. Tomorrow we will start meditation in a step by step manner. First we would try to improve our attention (Shraddha) on the thing we want to dwell on.

If you dont have any time constraint of 15 mins, I would suggest continue doing the above observation that Master is in every thing that we see. The curtain, the colour of it, our eye that is seeing it, the I that is observign it.. all is Master. Do this as long as you feel immersed.

If you find this difficult and your mind doesnt stand on observing Master in everything, pick up your notebook and pencil and start writing "Jai Sai Master" or your chosen word that describes the Master in the best way for you. Write it slowly remembering its meaning. Stop after writing it each time and wait till the feeling goes down and other thoughts come. Again, when you find yourself in other thoughts, just write the name again and again revel in its wonderful and divine meaning. Do this a few times and then after that, try to observe every thing around you, observing that the Master is what you see in everything as everything. Try to hold this as long as you can. When ever you looze it, go back to writing.

Please dont be alarmed if you find yourself sweating a little during this, or even if you have an overwhelming emotion rushing out of you. That is just a natural process of your mind confronting itself and finding its true form and repelling out its bad tendencies that were so far suppressed. Try to observe that all such reactions are also Master! If you feel ecstatic and feel like laughing out loud, or happy deep inside, you should realize that that too is Master!

Any doubts.. please ask.

Oh.. regarding sitting posture. Sitting in padmaasana, artha padmaasana or Sukhasana (the way our Master sits) is ideal. If you cant do that because of lack of flexiblity, you can try doing this sitting on a comfortable but erect chair. Dont have a chair that you can ease back on or one that will make you slump in like a soft sofa. One good idea is a dining wooden chair. Put your shawl on it and sit on it in a comfortable way. Dont slump or slide back, but dont be too stiff. Sit comfortably but alertly.

After your meditation, it is best to offer some "Naivedyam" (some sugar is suffice) to Master, give aarati and take the prasaadam. Spread it to every one you know. IF you still have some of it left, mix the sugar back into the original jar that you put it out from. In the end, pray to Baba that the result of your meditation should be offered towards the betterment of the entire universe as He sees fit. Pray to Him to make you worthy of His constant blessings and with that feeling leave your meditation place and go into your daily activities.

Jai Sai Master!

Jai Sai Master!

On a last note, I would say that even if you couldnt keep up to 15 mins with this meditation or feel like you couldnt concentrate.. dont worry. Pray to Master! If you find yourself not being able to meditate, it should immediately ring to you that That is also Master! That would keep you on track.

Dear Sai Bandhus

Jai Sai Master

I am posting here a translation of the first page of the Budha Dhyaan Hridayam. I have tried to maintain true translation of what Mastergaru has written and so the although the "English" might suffer, I hope the meaning does not.

"

OM BUDDHA DHYANA HRIDAYAM

(The core (heart) of Buddha's Meditation)

Buddha's teachings are universal and are forever new (applicable all the time). It targets the mind - that which is closest to man. It starts with an ignorant mind and ends with a perfect mind.

We perceive the outer world and experience our own body through mind itself. Thus, if mind is understood rest all is automatically understood. This was told by Budha in this "Ratna Megha Sutra". The good and evil found inside and outside the body dependent on mind, says "Anguttarani Kaya Sutra". Thus if world "seems" to be getting hostile towards the evil it amounts to positive transformation of mind. The activities of the mind confined withing the materialistic aspect (Loukika Vyavaharam) are positively cultured due to the strength of the samskaras. Given thus, is it possible for this kind of transformation to take place in each and every person ? Does the society have to suffer injustice till that time ? History tells us that even if a few strong willed people having strong will and profound insight are present, the rest follow their footsteps. Either towards something bad or towards good, this is what happens.

Since Buddha found a way to cultivate mind itself, even in light of modern scientific developments, his teachings stand high. The teachings are forever fresh and ever applicable.

Buddha stated three prominent principles of mind:

1. First and foremost is to know the real nature of mind which in spite of being closest to us is very difficult to understand.

2. Any methodology that can be employed to mould the mind, which is seemingly convenient and flexible yet time consuming and unbending in reality.

3. Liberating the mind (attainment of mukti) which though entangled in shackles can be instantly liberated.

All these teachings to culture the mind can be summed up in one phrase "Be ever alert"[Shraddha]. This is known as Smrithupasthanam (Sattipadhana). What should we be alert towards? How? His teachings comprise the answer. Having the right "Smriti" IS THE ONLY WAY TO ACHIEVE THE ABOVE THREE, Buddha said.

"

I would request the moderator or Babugaru to go through this to correct any inadvertent mistakes. I'll post the translation for the 2,3,4 pages soon.

Dear Dwarakanath,

We started medication today as per your guidelines. It started quite well and i experienced "blankness" (sunyathvam) for couple of minutes during meditation.

I have a doubut regarding how to keep the position of our hands during meditation. Please share your thoughts on this.

Jai Sai Master!

Thank you Sai for posting the translation. I would require two more translations.
1. Letter by Master from "Mahatmula Muddu Biddadu" page 143 to 145.
2. Essay " Dhyanam " from page number 18 of "Dhyana Yoga Sarvaswam".

I would mention two points here to every one.

Any meditation becomes fruitful through determination, devotion and constant practise. It also needs a Spiritual giant to be a guide. If a normal person teaches meditation, it isnt as impactful as a Sarvagna (All Knowing) teaching it. I am not a Sarvagna. But here, every one must remember that you are not following me. We all are following Master. The Dattatreya.

Second is that what ever I point out here is my interpretation of Master's teachings and Amma's teachings. I try to make sure that what ever I write has a source in Master's, Amma's and / or The Upanishads an other holy scriptures. Holy Scriptures in themselves hold little value. Their value depends on the one following them. My intention in starting this meditation is to follow them carefully yet surely and inch towards perfection. My cause is blessed, my conscience clear. This is not another "Do meditation for three years and you will attain such High spiritual state" concern. This thread is all about faith, determination and perseverance. A way to understand and impliment Master teachings better. Nothing more. Nothing less. What ever the results of this thread are solely the blessings of the Master, coupled with your own individual effort.

With this clearly in mind, let us all step forth to the first day in our meditation. On 7th we have prayed Baba for success in our meditation. Today we start it. I will write today's lessons shortly.

My humble request to all Sai Bandhus is to persevere. Not to let go. Dont stop because you feel like you cannot do it. With Baba's blessings, nothing is impossible. All it takes is practise and repetition, faith and devotion, determination and perseverance. Keep at it, day in day out. We will go slowly, making sure we are "meditating" on the concepts rightly. Taking several weeks on each concept that Master taught. Adding to this we would have discussions on Master's teachings, clearing us of doubts.

I would try and dissect the above posted essay from "Buddha Dhyana Hridayam" for better comprehension later today.

Raju annayya : Dont worry about hand positions or mudras. Simply put them together as Master and Amma do. That should do.

Jai Sai Master!

Dear E.D garu,

I wish to confess that my sankalpa to join in meditation is so weak that I did not sit down to meditate yesterday. I have indeed lost a wonderful opportunity. When I checked this site today, I saw your posts & instant messages and felt ashamed. I only hope that this will increase my fervour in today's meditation and that this opportunity will not be lost to me. I pray that my negligence has not disrupted our group's efforts.

Praying for Ammagaru's blessings, I am sitting down now for meditation.

Thanking you

Jai Sai Master

Dear E.D. garu,

With Ammagaru's blessings, I have just completed today's meditation. I had a very good experience - mainly I remembered/felt about samudrasnanam with Mastergaru which I have not recalled in a long long time.

with warm regards

Sai Bandhus!

Jai Sai Master!!

My first meditation session went off well, without any inner turbulence. Nothing substantial happend, and I am not expecting one too. Like Sri Babu garu said, our intention is to welcome Sri Master into our hearts, and let stand that feeling for as long as possible.

Babu garu, I tried to follow as much as I can with the list that you provided. However, I hope I am not troubling you with repeated questions.

1) You said, we need to wear socks (for comfort). Since we are already in an apartment, with soft carpets, do I need to wear it? I will definitely wear it if you want me to, because discipline is the one thing I always struggle, and if I HAVE to wear it, I will.

2) Flowers! I may not be able to offer flowers everyday Babu garu. Please forgive me for saying this. Can I put anything else?

Regarding my meditation session yesterday, I followed it just as you said. One thing that pleased me is, my mind is usually such a monkey, the moment I start to sit quiet, it runs havoc. Not even for a single second, does it stay at one place. Parayana is the only thing that keeps my mind at check, because I am really lucky to be doing parayana as specified by Sri Chaitanya Swamy, and with his blessings, it has been going on wonderfully well. That is the only time my mind does not play games with me, each and every day, I am into those events of Sri Guru Charitra, Sri Sai Leelamrutam, Mahatmula Muddu Biddadu, and Guru Sushrusha.

So coming back to the meditation, my previous sessions were like completely a failure, because I could not sit quiet. But yesterday, I kept thinking about Sri Master, and all my mind was doing was thinking about Master. Master as photos, Master as books in front of me, Master as the wall, Master as the curtains, Master as the Book shelf, Master as the Vigrahas ( I am doing my mediation in the regular pooja room ). It went quite well. I still have to say, getting back to the thought that Master, Sai and other Satpurushas as THE ONE is pretty tough. The easy part (atleast a little easy) is the feeling that all the Satupurushas are there to drive us forward.

So, that was my session. I will have more doubts, and I do hope I am not troubling you by asking silly questions. Because, nenu ilaane chesi chaala saarlu padipoyanu.

May we all drive forward successfully, in this great event called "Online Meditation" with the help of all the Sadgurus.

Jai Sai Master!!

Day - 2 :

JaiSai Master!

Today, what we will do is see how calm our mind can be, or rather, how turbulent it can be. Do prayer as mentioned yesterday and take the teertham and sit comfortably.

Then sit and start observing your mind. When ever you come to notice a thought, just write it donw in the book.. next thought right down.. next thought right donw.. but dont try to think. Just that if you notice any thought other than "emptyness" you should write down.

What you will notice with this excersize is that after writing down a few thoughts, your mind becomes silent. That is because it is busy trying to observe itself. You will find this emptyness shattered by another thought.. thats when you should write it down.

Write thoughts down in four to five words.. Dont go on describing them.. quickly jot down like "today boss scolded me".. or "green meadows with yellow flowers" or what ever.

The process is that you get lost in the thought. You might not recognize the thought when it occurs. Thats because your mind was thinking that thought rather than observing. But once it starts to observe, you will start loosing thoughts. Writing resets this process.

We will practise this through out this week and next week. By doing this, we will train ourselves to start observing the mind when ever we want to. And you will find that the frequency of disturbing thought gets less and less. Also, through out the day, you will find that you are observing yourself while doing anything else. Then that means, your life has become meditation.

This practise helps in improving "Shraddha" that Master was writing in Buddha Dhyana Hrudayam and also that "Daksha" that Baba told. Once we have enough practise, we will start noticing that we would immediately recognize patterns in thoughts and understand what thoughts lead to bad ones eventually. THat makes us stop bad thoughts before they occur. Atleast, thats been my experience.

By Master's grace we should all get our lives to be part of Meditation.

Please do not think wether this meditation is better than watching Baba's picture or repeating Baba's name or which one is better. Each serves the same purpose in a different way and both will give you similar results, especially if you constantly remember that this meditation is but Baba's blessing. Even Sri Krishna said "Those who meditate on me incessantly.." (similar to constant rememberance of Baba or looking at His picture) also said that one should observe and find out the three gunas and improve the SattwaGuna and shun the others, and only by such practise can one be able to pray Him "incessantly".

This process is like removing weeds before fertilizing. Coupling this with Parayana will inform us of right way of thinking and also helps us in shunning wrong thoughts.

Lets do this for two to three weeks atleast.

Please do write your doubts or questions, or share your meditation experience and insights with us, even though they might feel a bit silly for you to point out. Because we all are doing the same process, our insights do match up sooner or later and by sharing insights we can clearly observe the process within us.

Jai Sai Master!
