ONLINE MEDITATION!!
« on: March 25, 2007, 07:15:54 AM »
Jai Sai Master!

First of all, my apologies for lack of posts over the past few days.. Got really busy with my animation and other things. I will be back in full force in a couple of days..

Now.. to the topic..

I was reading Buddha Dhyana Hridayam and was talking to Amma about the meditations in that Book. Master has covered almost all forms of deep meditation and their secrets in that small package and I asked for Her blessings to start practising them to see whether I can really do them even for a few minutes.

She blessed me and I am starting it.

Then I got this thought of making it a kind of Online workshop where we discuss and practise it on a weekly basis, and share our thoughts.

Is any one interested? What I am thinking of is 15 minutes a day schedule. Those who are interested and who think they can do this regularly, please post their names here. I will put all the names to Amma and ask for Her blessings. We can do this if any one is interested. Otherwise, I will carry on and do it on my own..

Jai Sai Master!

Jai Sai Master Babu garu,

I am very much interested in it. Having said that, I am a little sceptic about myself. All my previous attempts to do even simple meditation have resulted in failure on my part or some kind of cryptic divine message that I get from Baba or Master garu or Sri Chaitanya Swamy. For example, my left eye twitches, when ever I start it. I know it seems like superstition but that happens only when I attempt meditation, like simple pranayama. Or I open a book, mainly Leelamrutam, and I get a message, "buddhigaa chaduvuko, aaru shaastralu akkaraledu..." or "neevu eppudu koti buddhi peda buddhi kala vaadavu..." etc etc..

Bus since you are going to take the blessings of Sri Alivelumangamma Talli asseessulu, I will be rest assured. If the MOTHER blesses us, then what more do we want?

Great start!

Jai Sai Master!

The session start from next thursday!

In the meanwhile, i would ask you to procure these simple things.

1. A shawl.. smooth and soft one. That should be used as an asana (to sit on). It should not be used for anything else. Buy something that can be washed and dried easily. Cotton cloth would be ideal.

2. A bottle of water. This bottle should be used only for requirement of water during meditation. The water shouldnt be chilled. It should be room temperature. Luke warm is ideal.

3. Find or make a place in your house where you wont be distracted, especially visually. An enclosed puja room would be ideal. Otherwise, a place where not many people roam around would do. Make sure that the lighting there is not too bright. A place with sunlight access is ideal, otherwise any corner in a moderately lit room would do. Similarly access to fresh air also helps. So look for ventillation. Make sure this place is not in your bed room. I know the stipulations offered by appartments and modern buildings. So all these are ideal. If you have no such availablity, you can use the best place you have that comes closest to the above discriptions. Again, no distractions is the top priority.

5. A notebook and two pencils. Notebook, ideally with white paper. two pencils, preferably mechanical so that there is no need of sharpening.
use these only for meditation.

6. A candle and a lamp shade, made of glass. (a ghee lamp would be ideal).

7. a plant in a plant pot. preferably tulasi plant. any flowering plant would do. a small one is suffice. make sure that you place this near your place of meditation. you can use a plastic pot holder so that water doesnt drip onto the floor.

8. agarbattis (scent sticks) of your favourite flavour. I like lavender or sandal personally. any thing of your liking could be used. Those small ones that burn for fixed amount of time (like 15 mins one) which u can get at zen or fengshui stores are ideal. but any ones will do. Make sure they are of decent quality and give less smoke and more flavour. cheap ones give out too much smoke and less scent.

9. a spoon and a plate and a clean cloth to wipe your hands or face.

10. A japamaala (bead garland), preferably with 108 beads. Rudraksha or sphatica or tulasi are ideal.

11. two or three sets of socks.. preferably white. depending on your weather, you can use cotton, woolen. Nylon or polyester are not to be used. Again, use these on only when you are meditating.

12. Master/Sai Baba/Dattatreya photo. Preferably a seated one and in a meditative pose. Otherwise, which ever one you like the most. For me, Master's meditation photo or Sai Baba in Dwarakamai (real photo, not the painted one.. the one where he is sitting with one leg up..) and a meditating Shiva are my favourites. Pick which ever one that inspires you.
Place these photos in your meditation place so that you need not move them everyday. Ideally these would be different from those that you use in daily prayer. (That is, if you are not using your pooja room/place for meditation)

13. Three papers to write Master/Baba quotations and stick them up around your meditation place. Quotations, ideally, would be those that are blessings and/or those that are inspiring you to meditate. You can find some inspiring ones by Master in "DhyanaYoga Sarwaswam" and Mahatmula Muddubiddadu as well as in Buddha Dhyana Hrudayam. They should inspire you and should remind you of the importance of meditation.

14. Any item given to you by Mahatmas. Packets of Udhi or Books or any such things. This is not a requirement, but helps meditation immensely.

15. Think out a word that inspires you in describing your Guru with it. For many "Sai Baba" is a favourite. I like "jagadguru" and "Sadguru" and "Sri Rama" for Master, rather than His name. But again, its a personal thing. This word should give you a picture of His greatness in your mind and make you humbling.

16. A roll of cotton(knitting) thread. White coloured, soaked in Haldi (Turmaric (sp?)) water.

17. Last but not least- these books.
1. Buddha Dhyana Hrudayam
2. DhyanaYoga Sarvaswam
3. Mahatmula Muddubiddadu (Or a copy of the letter of Master on page 143 to 145.) (I would try to scan it and upload it)
4. Copy of Udaya Prarthana that Master wrote( I would try to scan in it and put it online)

If you are meditating as a group (with family or friends) then make sure each one has all those things seperately, other than books, scent sticks and Photos. Make sure you select Photos together so that they are equally inspiring to all of you. Make sure the shawls (Asana), japamaala and water bottles are not mixed up.. each should use their own.

Ear plugs or caps that cover ears would help keep noises out. When I was young, Master brought me a muslim cap ( the one that is tight that they put while praying ) and when I asked why, He told me that reason.
If you cannot get access to any of the above, its still fine. But having all of them would be ideal.

Ananth:
If I were you, I would probably not assosciate those sentenses with my Meditation. Meditation was highly encouraged by Master, along with Parayana and Satsangam. Interestingly, this is one form of Sadhana that is universal to all religions. But if Amma or Swamy explicitly told you not to do meditation, then you should not. Again, I wouldnt see left eye twitching as bad at all. I would consider that a reaction of my nervous system relaxing and resettling into a better shape.

Dear Dwaraka Annayya,

Thanks. I have those books with me, but I can't read Telugu. Do I have to have a separate set of these books? Can you post an English translation of page 143 to 145 of Mahatmula Muddubiddadu?

Namasthe Dwaraka Babu,

If I am not late for enrolling, I want to enroll for this session.

My name is Sri Sai Kiran

My mother used to say me about meditation many times, but I never concentrated on it. I am away from her from past 2 years and now I am feeling the importance of her words.

May be this is the opportunity which SAI MASTER has given me.

Thankyou,
Sri Sai Kiran.

Dear E.D. garu,

Please enroll me in the course as well. I hope I am not too late for this.
I think this combined meditation with your guidance from Mastergaru's books and Ammagaru's blessings is a wonderful idea & opportunity - too good to be true!!!

I take this opportunity to add that this Forum makes me truly feel part of a community - of Sai bandhus. We have now moved from Bangalore to Bhopal and the Forum has come with us!!! This is not the miracle of internet(!), it is the miracle of Baba's blessings.

Jai Sai Master!
