Jai Sai Master

Amma garu Saranam.

 Dear Sai Bandhus,
This is just my opnion. Please tell If I said any thing wrong. I personally feel Sai will test us only to offer anything to us but he will not test us by giving us any troubles. If we are in troubles he will come to us and say. I am there why fear. Then why are we facing troubles? it is just because of our karma. Sai will reduce  karma and finally destroys sins, and he will take us to move in (Subra margam) good way.

Example: In Sai Leela Amrutham, he reduced and completely destroy the sins of Bhagoji, Bhimaji and all.

He Tested the guru bhakthi of Radha krishna Aai, Syama and others by asking to kill the old goat.

Jai Sai Master.
Sri Samardha Sadguru Ali Velu Manga Sahitha Bharadwaja Maharaj ki Jai.

Jai Sai Master!

The question of whether Baba tests us or not depends on our view point. If we see situations going against our grain, one can say 'it is poorva karma' or 'it is a test' or 'it too is Baba's grace'. It all depends on how we build up our attitude towards Baba, our Bhavam. The classic case of a 'test' seems to be that of Eknath Maharaj when He is given rotten food as prasadam by Datta Swamy in the form of a Fakir (and Eknath was then biased against Fakirs too, while being an orthodox brahmin Himself), and Eknath Maharaj rejects it twice, but accepts it the third time after His Guru tells Him to. That might seem like a 'test' in one view point, a 'lesson' in another. You see, therefore, that the question of Baba testing us or not testing us depends on our view point.

If one has a view point that Baba is 'improving' me, then such attitude is appreciable. Where as Baba as 'benefactor' and 'all knowing' and 'all pervading' (including ourselves), then such an attitude is not palatable. However, both view points lead to the same goal, hence there is no problem.

Jai Sai Master!

Well,

there are different attitudes (flavours) of Bhakti that a devotee might develop  towards Baba based on one's own temperment. One can feel Baba as the Guru, the teacher, the 'improver'. And when one feels so, it follows, that to improve us Baba  tests us. The other attitude that one can hold is that Baba is taking care of us, providing us, always, with what is best for us. And in this scenario, it is understood that Baba knows everything, He need not test us, but just to give us the best, and that what ever one says as 'test' is just a way for Baba to teach us an important lesson, or that He is just working out our Karma in the best way possible.

In the first attitude, one can feel that Baba is testing one, and the point is to pass the test what so ever. Here, the devotee feels that each situation is a question thrown at the devotee by God which has to be answered in the best way possible, so that one can get Baba's teachings and grace and protection.

But in the second attitude, one feels that Baba need not, and does not, test the devotee. The devotee sees Baba more as 'motherly' and 'caring' and 'carrying' one safely through all the Karma bandhas. When the devotee holds this attitude, where Baba doesnt need to 'test' the devotee, but to 'help' the devotee, and that Baba knows everything, there is no question of whether Baba wants to test us or not. For the devotee of this temperment, it seems absurd that Baba 'needs' to test. It seems more like 'help' and 'care' but not 'test'. Here 'testing' is not compatible with the kind of all pervading motherly love of Baba, but caring is. This attitude doesnt give any reason to think that Baba is 'testing'.

Baba is, for each devotee his own. Based on one's temperment (samskaram) one sees Baba in his own way. So, it is really not  a matter of whether 'Baba tests us' or not. It is just the devotee's temperment that makes one feel so or not.

Babu garu,

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I am considering the above statement is referring to the second attitude  ( Motherly nature of Baba). if this is the case why this attitude is not palatable ( or not agreeable).

Here we should replace  'such an attitude' with 'the idea of Baba tests us' in this context IMO.

2nd category people would always think that Baba is doing that particular thing for her/his own good....where a mother will always take care of his/her off springs, and no question of 'Test' here...

Jai Sai Master!.
