Mastergari Ammagari Likes Dislikes
« on: March 27, 2007, 02:32:57 AM »
Jai Sai Master.

Dear Dwaraka Babugaru,

May we know what are likes and dislikes of Mastergaru and Ammagaru.

We wanted to ask this question many times but could not ask you so far.

We came to know from Paarayana Deeksha suggested by Chaitanya Swamy every year that Mastergaru likes Green color. Is it light green color or dark green color or parrot green? Can we see any of photoes of this.

What are Mastergari and Ammagari favorite Food Items?

Also may we know what occasions, what incidents, what opinions Mastergaru /Ammagaru appreciated / liked or disliked?

Paarayana and Satsangamu are the noble practices Mastergaru suggested to all of us which helps whole universe which will be more and more realized as the time moves.

May we know about the other practices Mastergaru and Ammagaru suggested?

Thank You.

Jai Sai Master.

Jai Sai Master!

Great topic!

Will write about it soon after rechecking with Amma.

Oh.. some might say that Mahatmas shouldnt have "Likes and Dislikes"... Just for some food for thought, how would you answer them? For example, if I say that Master liked "Wheat Halwa", how would you answer such people? This is just to think for ourselves for clarity. Think about it and reply.

Not just Uttam and Pallavi, but everyone in general. How would you answer this? Not only this, how would you answer such questions when people ask
"Why did Baba like Pan? Mahatmas shouldnt have likes and dislikes.. but why does Baba have it then?"

Jai Sai Master!!

Om Samartha sadguru Sai Nathaya Namaha

Sir, i am thinking it in this way:

Mahatmas come in the form of Human beings, for sake of us(Human beings).
The purpose they came in the form of human beings is, to make us understand better about spirituality, God, how to reach HIM. etc...

We, human beings have likes and dislikes. Therefore, Mahatmas will establish their own likes and dislikes, and teaches us how to overcome them.
(To teach us, they will come up with their likes and dislikes).

In one of the books, Master Garu mentioned:

Ishtaa ishtaalu manalni Sadguruvu krupaku dhooram chestaayi.

So, mahaatmas will teach us how to overcome those likes and dislikes.

Suppose, mahaatmas doesn't have any likes and dislikes. And they ask us to overcome our likes and dislikes. We may say that, as you mahaatmas doesn't have any likes and dislikes, it is easy for you people to say us to overcome them. And we say them that it is not that easy to overcome them.

Thus, mahaatmas comeup with their likes and dislikes, and say us that "Even I had likes and dislikes. And in this way, i had overcome them and reached GOD."

So, to teach us, to show us, how to overcome them and reach GOD, THEY will set up their own likes and dislikes.

But, innerly, they may not have any likes and dislikes.

Sir, please forgive me if had written something irrelevant.(The whole thing might also be irrelevant).

Please correct me sir.

Jai Sai Master, Babu garu..
Jai Sai Master, Sai Bandhus..

I would try to see if I can come up with a reasonable explanation. For that, I would like to quote the very first para of chapter "Dakshina" in the holy book, Sri Saileelamrutamu.

Quote:

Srushti lo vaastavaaniki sarvamu bhagavantunide. Manaku sarvamu aayachitangaa prasaadinchina bhagavantude, manapi anugrahamu tho sadguruvu gaa saakshatkaristaaru. Aayana prasaadinchinade krutangnyata tho vaariki samarpistunnamu ani gurtu unchukovadame dakshina lo unda valasina bhaavamu."

Mahatmas, indeed do not have likes and dislikes. But to all of us, being ordinary human beings, with likes and dislikes, love & hatred, tastes and smells, touch and feelings, They present to us those 'forms' so that we can perform the act of "Giving Dakshina" through those very forms, with which they are 'seen' or 'felt'. Thereby (and through sadguru bhakti) we can better prepare ourselves to reach HIM.

For example, it is very unfortunate (duradrushtavantulu) if somebody thinks even Master has "likes and dislikes". But it will be fortunate enough if we think that Dattaswaroopa like Sri Master has presented Himself through those so called "likes and dislikes" because He is giving us a chance to serve Him by giving ( I should not say "giving", I should say "dakshina" but for simplicity terms, I used it once..please forgive me Babu garu...) Him what He likes and keeping away from what He dislikes.

Extending the example, if Sri Master likes, "Wheat Halwa", that is one of the wonderful reasons to give Dakshina to Sri Datta Master by preparing that item and presenting it to Him (Dakshina..).

The flip side of the same example to give to a person who says "even Master has likes and dislikes???"...is.... by telling him/her, this same point.

My point would be, if Sri Master does not "show" likes & dislikes to the ordinary people like us, then how can we serve Him? And if we don't serve Him, then how can we reach Him?

So, only for "Baahya prapanchamu" Sri Master appears to have 'likes' and 'dislikes'. Probably in telugu I can say more effectively..

kevalamu mana andari meeda premathone Master garu alaa ishtaaishtaalu unnattu kanapaddaaru..

Jai Sai Master!

Regards,
Ananth

Jai Sai Master !

Really a great food for thought !!

"Obviously" Mahatmas dont have any likes and dislikes ! Else there would not be much difference between them and us.

If we just think a bit deeply, Baba once said to a devotee that you have been feeding me for past so many years ( The devotee used to offer naivedyam to Ganesha and since Baba was one with all the Gods he received her offerings) Similarly many a times Baba used to say that he went to such and such devotees house for food. However the question that comes to mind is does Baba feel hungry ???

Baba displayed exemplary control over his own body,He could literally take out his body parts. Can hunger effect such a one ?

So us offering naivedya to Baba is a means to feel His presence and as a mark of love and respect for Baba who is truly the provider of food.

Now when we think of Mastergaru and his liking for wheat halwa, we can see another aspect. In our daily life we are accustomed to doing something or the other for our loved ones. All of us would really like to do something for our parents. We might do something as simple as making tea for them in the evening since we know that they like to drink tea in the evening. Its our way of expressing our love.

So IMO since we only know of the love that we are used to, Mahatmas also display for our sake certain likings. These likings are avenues for us to express our love for we are used to only such expressions.

Also we "know" that Mahatmas are aware of each and every thought and action that we do. In such a case our whole life should be a loving remeberance of them. But this is not the case. So by indicating their likings and dislikings, they give us options. Thus while we should remember to take every morsel of food by remembering the God, and offer each morsel to Him, we are not able to do so. So atleast when we make Wheat Halwa we try to think of Mastergaru continously since we know that he likes it. And since we are thinking of Him atleast for that time, the purpose of Mahatmas by indicating their liking is served ! Coz despite our "busy" schedules we could remember Him for that time atleast Smile

This according to me is the reason. I would like to thank Ananth garu since his post provided me a way to approach this question

Jai Sai Master !

Jai Sai Master.

Dear Sai Bandhus,

All of you have answered in a very appropriate way. Thank you all.

When Mastergaru came to our home, we wanted to offer what we have. Then we thought it would be nice if we can make what Mastergaru likes. This is how we requested Dwaraka Babu.

Definitely Mahatmas do not have likes and dislikes. But we want to offer something to Mastergaru who has been guiding us always like a Father, Mother, Brother, like Baba. Beyond this at this stage we are not able to think anything else.

When it comes to offering, we are also asking about the practices what Mastergaru likes so that we can practice in his presence here. This is our intention.

We all know Mastergaru advised us to follow two practices:

1. Paarayana of Sathgrandhas.
2. Be in Satsanga.

Mastergaru liked them, practiced them and offered to all of us to practice. Similarly we would like to know more about the practices offered by Mastergaru.

Dwaraka Babugaru, still we would like to know what Mastergari, Ammagari likes and dislikes. Please let us know. Life becomes meaningful if we follow what Baba, Mastergaru, Ammagaru suggested.

Jai Sai Master.

Jai Sai Master !

Dear Sai Bandhus

Babugaru had asked us :

Quote:
Oh.. some might say that Mahatmas shouldnt have "Likes and Dislikes"... Just for some food for thought, how would you answer them? For example, if I say that Master liked "Wheat Halwa", how would you answer such people? This is just to think for ourselves for clarity. Think about it and reply.

I happened to ask him the answer ( since i was myself incompetent to answer rightly ) after my post in this thread.

Babugaru told how to approach such questions. First of all we should immediately think what is like ? I anwered ( after several promptings) that like is a feeling which makes us think that we can get happiness. For example I might like Thumps Up coz i feel it will give me happiness after drinking. [ My answere on liking might not be up to the mark, but i feel its ok for understanding purposes ]

Next Babugaru asked what is this like based on ? I answered it is based on situations. I could not answer further. Babugaru then said that the situations could be many including physical situations. Each body has somethings favourable to it which make it feel pleasant. So based on teh body type likes and dislikes do get affected. Similarly upbringing, enviroment, soceity and culture also have their effect on likes and dislikes. Just like bodies requiring some materials under some conditions, individuals have likes and dislikes differentlly in different situations.

People like us are ignorant and so we identify ourselves with just this body. thats why our likes and dislikes are limited and are selfish. Usually such likes and dislikes build up ignorance further and so they are said to be bad. But the Mahatmas are not just bodies. They identify themselves with the universal conciousness as well as the body that They are manifest in. So Their likes and dislikes are at both levels. Their universal compassion and Their desire to uplift ignorant souls can also be called "Like" but that kind of a like is based on their identification with universal conciousness. Similarly on the body level also, They have likes and dislikes. these are more like bodily preferences. Since Mahatmas are already enlightened these likes and dislikes do not matter that much to Them. They are equanimous to duality. They are above likes and dislikes and so likes and dislikes dont effect Them. But They still do have likes and dislikes. It might sound preponderous and contradicting, but think about this.

Now Baba used to be present with a body and also as this universe, and similarly did Mastergaru. Baba walked with that body and not urs or mine. Surely He is present in our bodies also. But He is more manifest in that body. This difference is due to our ignorance that Baba is that body. Similarly its our ignorance that projects on to Them the sense of likes and dislikes. Just like taking care of a body ( Baba used to perform dhouti to that body and not mine) , He is also all pervading. Similarly He is both above likes and dislikes but also with likes and dislikes. We are bound by our likes and dislikes but He is not. Thats what it means to be above them. As long as He is with a body one can safely say that He too has likes and dislikes. But surely He is above them.

Jai Sai Master !

I  think  a  real  sadguru ,  in  order  to  become  intimate  to  his  devotees  behaves  like  them( a normal  human),  so  that   he  can  take  them  more  closer  to  gnana margam.  so,  i  feel  this  is  the  reason  a   sadguru  has  likes  and  dislikes.

Jai Sai Master!

Dear Ananth and Chandana. You are correct.

I think of it this way. Is Baba limited to a body? No. Does He have a body? yes. Does Baba get angry? Yes, many times in Leelamritam we can see that. Is He above anger and all His anger is but a show for His devotees? Yes. So, is anger Baba's weakness? No.

Similarly, do Mahatmas have likes and dislikes? Yes. Are they slaves to them? No.

I asked Amma again. Amma said Master likes Wheat-milk Halwa, Mirch Bajji and Bitter-gourd (Kakarakaya) curry as bitter as possible. Amma likes pulihora, Chutnies, and anything really hot with chillies.

Jai Sai Master!!
