Did Master recommend any ways to increase attention span?
« on: February 07, 2013, 05:56:21 AM »
Jai Sai Master!

Dear Sai Bandhus,

My son is almost 4 years old and have heard some concerns from his teachers about his attention span. What do you recommend to increase the attention span(I've read hundreds of articles, but I'm looking for the Master prescribed ways for increasing the attention span).  Age 6 is when doctors usually diagnose with ADD/ADHD and I don't want to hear such a diagnosis for my son.

For a real ADD/ADHD, how can we help to improve their life without medication? Reading about ADD/ADHD scared me to death and I wish Master garu was available in physical form to guide about the issues that have become more prevalent at a very young age.

Jai Sai Master!

First, please do not worry about ADD. There is hardly any chance that your child has it. Does your child watch TV/cartoons? If so, try to wean him away from that. That is the first thing you should do. Secondly, does he play enough? How many hours does he play in a day? A typical 4 year old must play atleast 6 to 8 hrs a day, majority of it being in running around, doing jumping jacks and flips.

Regarding ADD/ADHD. I hardly believe that it is as common as is shown by media/doctors. I would say it is a one in a million kind of a thing. Please please please do not worry. It is an urban legend at best, a fairy tale at its common and a scam at worst. Please do not read all those nonsensical articles about it.

If the child is not paying attention, it means it is not interested. It is not a syndrome or a disease. It is a healthy reaction to an inept situation. I feel the urge to speak to you directly regarding this, and I would love to see your child. I do not know where you stay, but if you are in hyderabad or visiting, please do contact me.

Will write more on this later on.

Jai Sai Master!

Thanks Babugaru for your encouraging words. I was almost in tears after reading your message because it gave me lot of hope. Both me and my husband have been worrying about this for the past few months. Regarding TV/Computer, he gets about  1-2 hours per month. And I give him plenty of outside time, we go out rain or shine and I actually play with him running around like a child and climbing all the slides/ropes along with him. There is another reason why I give him plenty of outside time because research shows such kids tend to be less myopic and that's also one of the reasons why I don't give him more screen time.

I don't have access to send you a private message Babugaru. I also want to talk to you regarding this and also about the books that you mentioned in the email.  Unfortunately I live in U.S and will bring him to you for sure when we come to India next time.

Babugaru, could you please send me your phone number in the email so that I can talk to you regarding this.
